Hammersmith Glass Replacements
8th April 2013
Glazing refurbishment were following an industry recommendation invited to attend this premier West London Office Complex and remove and replace multiple, large high level damaged glass units. (Access photos Here)G G Contracts Limited have a dedicated high level glazing division who attended the site and conducted via rope abseil techniques a detailed survey and glass measure to establish the configuration of the existing glass units to include matching the body tint and establishing critical glass sizes and weights. These were obtained following an intrusive survey to identify technically the glazing system, gasketry, fixings and silicones and glazing tapes.
In addition, the High Level Division also sent in the specialist in-house Health and Safety Team to conduct an in depth appraisal of the works and to establish all required road closures, associated permits, crane requirements, abseil configurations and safe anchor points. The client was then issued with a detailed quotation, a comprehensive Health and Safety plan along with copies of glass lead times, program of works, relevant insurance policies and the all important references from previous clients where the Company has conducted similar type works.
After acceptance of the quotation and issue of the works order Glazing Refurbishment set about sourcing glass units to match the existing high performance tinted double glazed units. The glass, no longer manufactured within the UK was tracked down to a supplier in Austria and the new double glazed units were imported via a specialist Glazing Refurbishment 4 tonne glass transportation vehicle. Road closures, permits and traffic management strategies were then arranged by us in conjunction with Hammersmith Council, Transport for London, the client and neighbouring buildings to include Olympia.
Crucially, all units then had to be made temporarily safe - a large operation that included removing the external fractured face of the glazing, the introducing of a specialist safety film to the remaining internal plate glass and the securing of all the perimeter caps and framework. The works were then completed over a weekend using a combination of crane, hydraulic A - frames, power suckers, high level glazing technicians and abseil technicians.
Also utilised during the project was our bespoke in-house strapping system designed to provide a fail-safe means of manoeuvring large heavy glass units above City Centre Locations and busy public areas. Upon completion all the new units were fully water tested and cleaned down prior to a handover with yet another satisfied client. For all your high level glazing or cladding requirements contact the best - G G Contracts Limited - Glazing Overhead Safely for the Last Twenty Six Years.
