Emergency Pitched Glazing Repair
27th January 2014
The recent high winds caused a serious Health and Safety issue for one of our Croydon based clients where Glazing Refurbishment delivered an emergency make-safe operation on a pitched glazing system.Prior to contacting us, the existing system had not been maintained correctly with serious design issues where structurally secured to building. Consequently this caused the pitch aluminium system to separate from the concrete fixings, dropping glazing level and jeopardising glazing integrity. This meant that the area of the building needed to be closed due to the risk to tenants and action needed to be taken.
Upon making the site area safe, our team began the process to repair glazing. This involved the removal of all glass and damaged components of the existing structure that were no longer fit for purpose.
The next stage involved both re-setting and repairing existing mullions with laser levels used to ensure a correct fit and using chemical anchors to ensure attachment to the existing structure. The timber region above the unit was replaced and we introduced a membrane in order to make the area weather-proof.
To finish the project, we installed an aluminium clad fascia board to improve the aesthetics of the area and carried out a water test to ensure that our works had been correctly delivered. Upon completion, we had repaired the pitched glazing system, guaranteed its performance and rectified all design defects.
A tricky job expertly executed.
